Understanding Watch Conditions

We sell a wide variety of watches at Touch of Modern. We recommend understanding the watch condition before completing your purchase. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

External Conditions

New watches have not been altered in any way since their original manufacture. They may or may not include the original box or paperwork. See the watch’s details for a description of what peripheral materials are included.

Store Display means that the watch was used as a display model in a store, but has not been purchased, returned, refurbished, or otherwise diminished. These watches may show light surface scratches and minor imperfections. Please refer to the watch’s grade for an approximate assessment of the watch’s cosmetic condition.

Unworn means that the watch shows no signs of wear, but may have been stored for some period of time. These watches may exhibit some discoloration or deterioration of natural materials (like leather straps) due simply to the passing of time.

Pre-Owned means that the watch was previously owned, worn, and enjoyed. Conditions can vary—please refer to the watch’s grade for an approximate assessment of the watch’s cosmetic condition.

Vintage watches were manufactured at least 20 years ago. Cosmetic condition varies, as is expected with timepieces that have been used, worn, and enjoyed for decades. Bands may show signs of wear such as scratches, delamination, or stretching. Dials may show fading or patina. A mild amount of surface scratches on cases, bracelets, and crystals is to be expected. Luminescent material on the hands and markers may have faded or chipped away.

CASE: Pre-Owned / Store Display / Unworn Condition Grades

Mint – Like-new condition. No scratches, nicks, dents, or other cosmetic blemishes to the case, dial, hands, or crystal.

Excellent – May show minor signs of wear on close inspection. No major dents to the case or scratches to the crystal. The dial and hands are in perfect condition without any chips, blemishes, or fading.

Good – Visible signs of wear but no major imperfections, dents, or deep scratches to the case or crystal. Dial and hands are completely intact but may show slight discolorations or signs of aging.

Fair – Clearly worn and used with scratches or dents but structurally intact. The dial and hands may show signs of aging or discoloration.

BRACELET OR STRAP: Pre-Owned / Store Display / Unworn Condition Grades

Mint – Like-new condition. No scratches, nicks, dents, or other cosmetic blemishes.

Excellent – May show minor signs of wear on close inspection. No major dents or scratches to the bracelet or any blemishes or fading to the strap. Leather straps may show signs of having been fastened without significant signs of wear.

Good – Visible signs of wear but no major imperfections, dents, or deep scratches to the bracelet. The strap shows signs of wear or stretch.

Fair – Clearly worn and used with scratches or dents but structurally intact. The bracelet or strap is worn and may be scratched, stretched, or delaminating.

BUCKLE: Pre-Owned / Store Display / Unworn Condition Grades

Mint – Like-new condition. No scratches, nicks, dents, or other cosmetic blemishes.

Excellent – May show minor signs of wear on close inspection. No major dents or scratches.

Good – Visible signs of wear but no major imperfections, dents, or deep scratches.

Fair – Clearly worn and used with scratches or dents but structurally intact.
